The Region

alicante viewThe beautiful region of Alicante is one of the historic provinces, together with Valencia and Castellón, which make up what is today called the “Communidad Valenciana”. The region of Alicante stretches from the south of the province of Valencia, close to Pego, through Denia, Javea, Benidorm, the city of Alicante to the small bay of San Javier in the south. It shares its southern boundary with the province of Murcia.

alicante viewThe history of Alicante demonstrates that it has been the target of many invasions such as the Muslims, the French and the English. During the “War of Independence” Alicante was actually the capital city of the province and during the 18th and 19th centuries augmented it’s port area and shipping trade as well as developing a rail system in 1858. Today Alicante is the second largest city in the “Communidad Valenciana” and its colourful history, created by the cultures of those various invaders in the past, is still visible in the city today.

The most well known of these is of course Benidorm, where thousands of holiday makers come every year to soak up the Spanish sun and enjoy Benidorm lively entertainment options. Benidorm is sometimes referred to as the Las Vegas of Spain with its vibrant night life and its towering skyscrapers, one of which, the “Bali Hotel”, is currently the tallest in Europe. Here you will find everything that you could imagine you would need to have a superb, fun-packed family holiday.

These areas boast some of the most beautiful beaches and bays in Alicante and also have fishing ports. In these areas and also a few minutes away in Benissa and Benitachell you will find many splendid and luxurious properties with private pools and grounds. These areas have become extremely popular for foreign purchasers and the local community has adapted well to these new cosmopolitan residents, as many businesses employ English speaking staff and many offer a wide range of international products and services. The Current Market

alicante viewDue to the popularity of this area and the influx of foreign purchasers, the property market in Alicante has seen a sharp price increase over several years with a recent dip. Many UK television programs show British couples purchasing fabulous villas in this area for around 100,000€. These programs are usually somewhat out of date, as today this is unfortunately no longer possible, even in the current crisis. In today’s current market 100,000€ would probably only buy you a 1/2 bedroom apartment or a townhouse requiring lots of renovation.

Finally, the Alicante region offers regular, cheap flights from many provincial UK cities to its main airport, superb international facilities and events and beautiful beaches but this of course comes at a cost and purchasers should to be well aware of this fact when considering this area.
